Cyparissi House occupies a plateau site on a hillside overlooking superb views of this exceptionally beautiful region of Corfu. Sheltered to the rear by an exposed rock-face that lends drama to the house itself, the plot drops away in front to provide views that, at any time of year, take the breath away. Like a perfectly composed painting by Edward Lear, serene olive groves fall away to reveal the bay and headlands of Avlaki, with the charismatic coastline of southern Albania as a mysteriously fascinating backdrop. This is a view that no-one ever tires of.
With a large area of private grounds for maximum seclusion, it comes as a pleasant surprise to find that Kassiopi, an attractive little resort town well-provided with shops and all amenities including medical facilities, is only a few minutes drive away. Magnificent beaches and water sports facilities are also nearby.
As soon as you enter the sweeping driveway bordered by cypress trees, you are aware that this is no ordinary property. Cyparissi House is destined to be one of the most beautiful, original and interesting new houses on the island of Corfu, thanks to its innovative design and stunning situation.
Our architect has excelled himself in the design of Cyparissi House. Inspired, perhaps, by the unique qualities of the site, he has created a house where light, space and the natural attributes of the surroundings intermingle to supply the perfect background –one that is soothing, yet stimulating, to the senses.
Divided into two wings to provide a perfect balance of privacy for owners and guests, the living areas are spacious and large windows lead out to terraces perfectly designed for easy outdoor living. One side of the house is devoted to a huge living area, with kitchen, dining room and sitting room opening naturally out of each other. Above this is the Master bedroom suite with bathroom featuring separate bath and shower, and dressing room.
On the other side of the house are the guest bedrooms and bathrooms, and the two wings are linked by a distinctive outdoor living area. This has open walls, a strikingly beautiful floor of marble and old traditional bricks, and brick columns supporting a timber-beamed, tiled roof.
Throughout the property, we have used the finest materials, from beaten stone floors to Italian granite kitchen work-surfaces, from cupboards and cabinets crafted by skilled local carpenters to terraces of natural stone brought from Albania and worked b y stonemasons of long experience. Traditional materials have been used in new ways and contrast with highly contemporary kitchen appliances and bathroom and other utility equipment.
In front of the house, on a slightly lower level, the pool with its terraces enjoys the same exquisite views. Landscaped gardens, planted for the most part with herbs and plants indigenous to the area, provide surroundings of natural charm.
Cyparissi House would be a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to acquire a beautiful country house surrounded by extensive private gardens. Building commenced spring 2008.
